The Asbury revival of 2023

I have been following reports for the last week about the revival at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky. From what I read and discern, I am EXCITED about this and WELCOME IT as an impactful development in American Christianity.

The current length of the service, which has continued since February 8, is historic. This revival will be remembered in the history books from what has already occurred. But the story is not over.

People from around the nation are gathering at Asbury to observe and receive, and this national interest will spread gospel passion to multiple locations. Hopefully, we are just at the beginning. Still, revival does not last perpetually, so let’s embrace and rejoice in what God is doing in this surprising development. The Kingdom is breaking in!

The passing of Pastor Robb Tripp

I want to express my deepest condolences to the Fireplace Fellowship congregation in Hendersonville, who lost Pastor Robb Tripp yesterday. I have partnered with this church since 2006 on various ministry initiatives, and Robb was always kind, funny, and loving. I admire how hard his wife Shanda fought with faith-filled prayers during Robb’s recent health struggles. From his TBN days as a teenager to local church ministry in Hendersonville, Robb lived with great love for Jesus.

Todd Hunter’s newest book – Deep Peace

I just eagerly ordered the book Deep Peace, the newest release by Todd Hunter. Todd has been at the forefront of several Christian movements in American for the last 40 years, so his insights into our faith today are proven and needed. Todd desires this book to “make a real difference in the conflict and anxiety that permeate Church and society.”

Since Todd has moved to the Nashville area from California, he has been gracious to me. I am enthusiastic about his ministry and what this book can mean to people.

Parable Church by Mike Burnette

I am so excited about Mike Burnette’s new book, Parable Church.

Mike is an incredible leader, pastor, and scholar. Mike is one of my best friends, and I can assure you he lives what he teaches. The concepts from this book will help you love Jesus and the church better. Experience a fresh perspective through Parable Church.

The passing of J. Don George (1937-2020)

We lost a spiritual giant today, as Pastor J. Don George went to his heavenly reward. The loss was sudden and unexpected.

He was my pastor growing up, so he is the preacher I have heard more sermons from than any other person. But, he was more than a great preacher to me. He was a life-long example of class and professionalism. I learned so much about leadership by just watching his life. I also learned a lot about friendship by observing how loyal he was to friends. He was a good friend to me.

No one preaches like J. Don George. Here is a one minute clip from 2017 that will build your faith and bring a smile to your face.

The Three Streams Chart

We had such a powerful worship experience last night. We took that evening to lean into the “Spirit stream” and found refreshing in the Lord.

Last Sunday, I started our vision series CIL Forward and shared our identity as a Three Streams church. Here is the chart that we shared during the sermon about the Biblical-basis for a Three Streams identity. Pastor Dan Scott introduced this chart to me a few years ago, and it has been a great way to put in words how God has formed us.
